In one of my classes today the instructor had us bring our cameras to the lab and go out and take "newsworthy" pictures, like ones you would see that preface an article in the paper. Naturally I was ecstatic about the endavour, as I've been delving into photography for several years now and think I've gotten steadily better. It's a very fun hobby of mine, and one that I am constantly trying to get better at.
Here are some of my pictures I took today.
This little kid (complete with Buzz Lightyear action figure and gramma) was a pretty cool dude.
Streetcar was moving.
Cooks on break at Kensington Market. Pretty cool guys. You'd be surprised at the amount of people reluctant to have their picture taken. I mean, I hardly ever ask and when I do you reject it? Pssh. The lesson here is to simply just take the fricking shot.
Shoes over electrical wire in Kensington Market. My classmate speculated that was the calling for areas where one could purchase illicit substances but I had two problems with this theory. One was that people don't slang where they rest at, and this place certainly fits that bill. Also, kids did that all the time when I was growing up, and it usually just meant you got your shoes done stolen.
A rare moment. Thanks, NOW Magazine!
The one picture I submitted for class, my feature article photo. It was taken outside of a clothing store in Kensington Market.
Another photo I submitted for class, as my news photo. The caption I wrote for it is thus:
Mayor-elect Rob Ford has pledged to clean up graffiti tags scattered around downtown Toronto, like these at the intersection of St. George and College street. "Spotless" streets were a key point in his platform during his campaign.
I'm not too happy with this picture. To the left and right of this frame is green tarp stretching all the way down the building, and it really is almost maze-like in real life, but I haven't quite figured out a way to capture it with my camera.
Yours.
